Tartan Register
The Scottish Register of Tartans was established by an Act of
the Scottish Parliament in 2008.
The Register is a searchable database of tartan designs
administered by the National Records of Scotland with advice from
the Court of the Lord Lyon and
representatives of the Scottish tartan industry.
We work closely with the Scottish Register of Tartans, providing
expertise and information to enhance the Register. This
collaboration ensures information about historic and contemporary
tartans is comprehensive and is held as part of the national
archives collection.
The Scottish Register of Tartans now includes tartans formerly
registered by the Scottish Tartans Authority. In addition, we hold
information and databases of tartans that complement the Scottish
Register of Tartans including records of tartans that have not been
registered.
For enquiries about registered tartans, please visit the Scottish
Register of Tartans. where you can check on their searchable
database for information including thread counts and new
registrations of tartans. For information on any other
tartans please contact us directly.
