Okanagan(District)
  • Notes: Asymmetric. This asymmetric tartan was developed by Daphne Malins, a founding member of the Desert Sage Weavers and Spinners Guild of the South Okanagan which is near the Canada/United States border. It was registered in 1978 with CIPO and samples are lodged with museums of Penicton and Oliver (infro from Guild of Canadian Weavers' Exchange in 2006 and CIPO). The colours represent those of the Okanagan Valley: light olive for sage brush, white, yellow and pink for the snow, sunshine and blossoms, khaki and green for tree trunks and orchard grass and the two blues for the haze over the valley and the colkours of the many lakes. The colours were originally obtained by hand-dyeing. Was originally woven by Fraser & Kirkbright of Vancouver.
