5869 was the original pattern said to have been woven for Brian Elmore of Maine by Linda Clifford. However when it came to registration it was refused becaasue of its similarity to MacGill, Chattan and MacFarlane. It is assumed that this modification shown here was in answer to that criticism and there is a woven sample of this sett (and not 5869) in the STA archives.
because of its close similarity to MacGill, Chattan and MacFarland – which demonstrates the wisdom of checking BEFORE weaving!
However, this sample still seems so similar that it’s surprising that it was accepted..
