Apparently commissioned by Baxters Jewellers of Saltcoats from designer Ronnie Hek for the Ayrshire seaside town of Saltcoats.
Baxters’ notes read as follows: "The history of Saltcoats, Ayrshire, is held within the colours of it’s tartan; the blue of the sea, the biege of the sand, the black of the coal, the white of the salt and red for the sun combined with a deep and rich purple, the traditional colour of Scotland. Saltcoats tartan was first worn by the Queen of the Sea at the annual Queen of the Sea Festival held in the middle of July."
