Pronounced Kaa - Day - Vay these are the initials of Berlin's famous department store - Kaufhaus Des Westes - originally built in 1906/07 and the largest in Europe. Famous for its gourmet food department on the 6th floor. It is reported (STS) that during 1989 and the Glasgow mission to Berlin, this tartan was designed from a plastic bag found at Glasgow Airport.
