Approved by Colonel Jardine, Clan Chief. The chiefly house is Jardine of Applegirth, a baronetcy created in 1672. The Jardines of Castlemilk in Dumfriesshire settled there in the early 14th Century. Letter from Cpt Stuart Davidson of 16th February 1979 says: "As you know Col Jardine has always firmly rejected the two Jardine tartans as trade inventions but he now appears to have been pressurised by the family to adopt a Jardine tartan . . . . the count is as follows."
