Colours: grey for the basalt plain Ballarat is built on, blue and white for the Eureka flag (which represents Australian nationalism and democracy) and yellow for the gold discovered and mined in Ballarat in the mid nineteenth century. The tartan has been endorsed by the Mayor of Ballarat.
