  • Notes: This tartan symbolises the battle between today's unsustainable fossil fuel-based civilisation (represented by grey rails on a black bed) and the sustainable, low-carbon alternative that must prevail (represented by green rails on a solar bed). Named in honour of the late Charles David Keeling of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, whose measurements at the South Pole and Hawaii from 1958 onwards supplied the first concrete evidence of rapidly increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and drew the world's attention to the effects that human activity was having on the Earth's climate.
