THE NATIONAL TARTAN CENTRE
One of our main aims at the STA is to establish a National
Tartan Centre. The Centre will be the home of tartan and provide a
showcase to present Scotland's iconic cloth to the world.

THE VISION
Our vision for a National Tartan Centre (NTC) is that it would
be;
A self-sustaining gateway that showcases and promotes tartan and
its important Highland heritage as well as its iconic status as the
defining symbol of a nation.
From traditional Highland Dress to modern fashion, manufacture
and design, the past, present and future should combine to create a
journey for the visitor, identifying the origins of a fabric now
synonymous with all things Scottish and exploring the versatility
of Tartan today in its woven and non-woven forms, providing a
source of identity and belonging to so many people across the
globe.
WHAT WILL BE IN THE CENTRE?
The NTC will be:
- An educational resource for formal and informal audiences, and
learners of all ages
- A showcase for Scottish history and contemporary culture
- A showcase for the tartan industry
- A gateway to other sites of relevance and interest
- A forum for debate and discourse on issues of identity and
culture
The Centre will not just be a Tartan Museum but will be a place
of research and education - it will be a conduit for all thing's
tartan.
WHAT NEXT?
Following a very positive Feasibility Study on the Centre in
late 2015 we are now working with a range of partners to find the
perfect location for the National Tartan Centre - home of
Scotland's iconic cloth. We will keep you up to date with progress
but if you are interested in supporting us with this project please
get in touch.
