"You need to have a blog!" our friends in Scottish Enterprise
told us. "Please don't say that!" I shouted from under the desk. "I
have enough to do and who the hell's interested in what I had for
breakfast?"
My rather old-fashioned ideas were based on watching teenagers -
having just parted from their friends - immediately embarking on
hour-long texting sessions with those same friends about lipsticks,
hairstyles, boys and no doubt what they'd had for breakfast on some
new diet.
So frenzied has been the finger-blurring messaging that I swear
they'd rather wear incontinence pads than interrupt a session by
attending to a call of nature. Now I know that's not blogging, but
to someone who's used to writing with a feather quill, it's in the
same technical neck of the woods.
But I've undergone counselling and have managed to stop the
uncontrolled weeping whenever a cell phone bleeps and am now able
to discern the difference between tweeting, texting and blogging -
or should I say twtng, txtng & blgn?
This blogging might be fun however and it's a good way of chatting
to members, friends and transient strangers about what we get up to
at the Scottish Tartans Authority and what's happening in our world
of tartan and Highland dress and all its offshoots.
The suggestion to start blogging really arose because we've spend
over 18 months awaiting an upgrade to our creaking website that was
falling into disrepair because our last web contractors ceased
trading. Well the day has arrived and the new site is up and
running and a-blogging we will go.
We wanted to call this the MacBlog but discovered that some
new boys on the computer block have already coined the word
so we'll just hang about until they go out of business and make it
our own. There will doubtless be the odd snag here and there so
please do let us
know if you come across anything that isn't quite working as
expected.
